Ingrid Sinclair

Ingrid trained in Bristol and worked for C4 TV before moving to Zimbabwe. There she worked with Simon Bright on a huge range of documentaries, from health care to sculpture, people’s rights to music and dance. FLAME, a feature about two girls fighting Zimbabwe’s Liberation War, saw her threatened by an outraged government. Nevertheless it became the year’s highest grossing film and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. Eventually, the government changed tack and championed the film as a valuable cultural ambassador. Seeking to counter western media’s negative and simplistic messages of Africa in all her productions, Ingrid worked region-wide as well as running training courses for UNESCO with Simon. In 2003 they went into voluntary exile and came to Bristol where they established Afrika Eye Film Festival whilst Ingrid continued film production and exhibition curating.
